Sepoy Laxman Gawas
Sepoy Laxman Gawas joined The Indian Army in 1962. He served in the 19 Maratha Light Infantry. Laxman was posted in the eastern region. He was part of the Operation Cactus-Lilly by India, it was a military operation done between 3-16 December 1971 by the Indian Air Force in the East Pakistan, currently Bangladesh. Laxman was detailed to carry mines in the forward area presumed for attack. While he was carrying the risky operation of loaded mines at mid-night during the 1971 Indo-Pak war he was killed in the action during the mine explosion. This brave Maratha Regiment Sepoy displayed exceptional courage and was awarded with Raksha Medal, Samar Seva Star and Sainik Seva Medal.
