Soldier Manik Damdane

Manik Damdane a fearless soldier of the 12th Maratha Regiment. He joined the army in 1984. In his 9-year-long service he had encountered many tough tasks and always kept high attitude and confidence in dealing enemies. Apart from basic soldierly traits he was adept in handling sniper rifle and all types of communication equipment. He was also a good sportsman. Maintaining the rich tradition of Marathas, he joined the Army to serve the nation.

On 4th May 2001 he was killed in encounter with militants near Timbrah village in dist Poonch (J&K). He was awarded the Sena Medal for his courage and devotion to duty of the highest order. We salute this son of the soil who gave his supreme sacrifice of his life in the defence of our Nation.
