Welcoming Ganesha into our homes, but this time, keeping him with us forever!

Aarey ne bola, “Ganpati Bappa Morya!”

An eco-friendly Ganpati making workshop!

– By Tia Asher

The arrival of ‘Vighnaharta’- Lord Ganesha always brings along an atmosphere of devotion and gaiety. When the preparations of his arrival were at it’s peak, Team Ample wanted to spread happiness in the Aarey Colony, but, along with that, share a strong message and create awareness about the environment in a fun and creative manner.

Every year, tonnes and tonnes of waste is generated due to the festival. The POP idol pollutes the sea to such an extent that it brings about a drastic decrease in the flora and fauna of the ocean. Why not bring about a change? Why not start with the youth?

The children were encouraged to get into the festive spirit by designing eco-friendly Ganesha idols using material such as mud, terracotta and clay. The need for eco-friendly idols was explained by Ample’s dedicated volunteers who grasped the importance quickly!

Seeds were embedded into the idols, which would result in growth of trees after immersion. An idol becoming a tree in the future, how does it sound? Check out the video here!
