A Powerful Poet, Statesman and an Iconic Leader of the masses.
Those who lack courage prefer to step back, but a leader forges ahead, crossing every hurdle and ultimately achieving the desired goal. Atal Bihari Vajpayee is one such leader.
1. Sarva Shiksha Abhiyaan – He scripted the Right to Education for school kids in India. If you think the Right to Education was exclusively a Congress achievement, here’s a shocker – it was Vajpayee who created its foundation with the Sarva Siksha Abhiyan, which made education for children aged 6 to 14 years a fundamental right.

2. India a nuclear weapon state with Pokhran II – Initiated as ‘Operation Shakti’, India tested five underground nuclear bomb explosions between May 11 and 13, 1998. After the success of the operation, Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee announced India’s official entry into the league of nuclear weapon state.

3. Strengthening economic and trade relations with US – In 2000 with the Bill Clinton visit to India (the first US President to visit India since Jimmy Carter), there was a thaw in India’s Cold War-era distant relationship with America, leading to improved trade and cooperation.

4. The Telecom Revolution in India – Atal Bihari Vajpayee is the man behind India’s Telecom revolution. His new Telecom Policy replaced fixed license fees for telecom firms with a revenue-sharing arrangements.

His tenure as PM was an era of political tolerance, liberal views and iconic leadership.
