We often criticise the Police force but rarely acknowledge their hard work or try to make a change.
Today, we bring you a few reasons why the Mumbai Police deserve all your respect. Next time, think about these before making a snazzy comment!
1) An Elite Commando Force: Force One, a specialised counter terrorism unit to guard the Mumbai metropolitan area that has the fastest response time in the world under 15 minutes in case of a terror strike!
2) 14-16 hours duty time! – You heard that right, the Mumbai Police have uncertain duty hours, often stretching to more than 16 hours. They work on days like New Year and national holidays and we rarely thank them for their services!
3) Pays poorly – In spite of the risk involved, the job doesn’t pay well. A beginner gets paid Rs. 15,000 to Rs. 16,000 a month and even a seven-year work experience can just get you a mere of Rs. 21000 a month!
4) Health problems – Whether it be summers, winters, rains, pollution – they are there! In recent years, the city’s main protection force has been rocked by a series of on-duty deaths, mental and physical illnesses owing to long duty hours, erratic schedules, pollution and extreme weather conditions.
Next time you say “jau dya sahib” and offer a bribe, remember that you are contributing in demeaning those members of the police force that work hard to protect you and uphold Mumbai city
