Mumbai rains!
This year too, the Mumbai monsoon has brought its share of disasters and deaths. Thus, once again bringing Mumbai to
a standstill. The richest BMC has shown that it is incapable of managing such a complex city. We’ll never know why the city is never “prepared” enough for the monsoon. Check out the list of disasters without which it’d be impossible to say that the #MumbaiRains have in fact arrived.
1) A wall caved in at a housing complex in Wadala after overnight rain in Mumbai. Several cars were damaged and over 200 residents of the housing complex were evacuated.

2) A portion of road fell through near Marine Lines after heavy rainfall. There was no loss of life but traffic disruption for hours.

3) Due to heavy rains, the pedestrian bridge collapsed at Mumbai’s Andheri Station. The Gokhale bridge connects the East and West stations while being used by thousands of commuters each day. Unfortunately, 4 were wounded and one life was lost.

4) A part of a MHADA building collapsed in South Mumbai’s Pydhonie. There was no loss of life but the injured were sent to hospital for treatment.

5) A mere teenager Nagendra Nagarjun, 18, drowned to death when he fell into a open gutter at Evershine Nagar, opposite Himachal Building in Malad West.

6) 5 teens went too far having fun in choppy waters during high tide at Juhu beach. Unfortunately, 4 of them lost their lives.

In the last 2 years, collapsed buildings during the monsoon have claimed at least 60 lives. Is such loss of life not enough for BMC and the Maharashtra government to be prepared?
