National Technology Day 2018

We wanted to shed some light on Indian Scientists who went down in history for their work.

1. APJ Abdul Kalam: Popularly known as the ‘Missile Man’, Mr. Kalam was the head of the Indian Space Research Organization team that developed India-made satellite launch vehicles. During the Pokhran-II nuclear tests, Mr. Kalam was the Chief Scientific Adviser to the Prime Minister and head of the Defence Research and Development Organization.

2. CV Raman: He is best known for his work on the inelastic scattering of a photon and for discovering the ‘Raman Effect’. He showed through experimentation that when light traverses through a transparent material, some of the deflected light changes in wavelength. He is the first Indian to win a Nobel Prize in the sciences. He was honoured with the Bharat Ratna, for his invaluable contributions to the field of science.

3. Homi J. Bhabha: He is popularly acknowledged as the father of Indian nuclear power. He has played an important role in the study of Quantum Theory. He was the pioneer to the position of the Chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission of India. He is also the founder of ‘Tata Institute of Fundamental Research’ at Mumbai.

4. Satyendra Nath Bose: Mr. Bose, a specialist in mathematical physics, has laid the foundation for quantum statistics and collaborated with Einstein on ground-breaking scientific researches. He is most fondly remembered for his work in the class of particles ‘bosons’. He was awarded the ‘Padma Vibhushan’ in 1954 by the Government of India for his contribution in the field of science.

5. Jagadish Chandra Bose: He was a polymath, physicist, biologist, botanist and archaeologist. He is well-known for his invention of ‘crescograph’, a device which measured plant response to various stimuli. Very few are aware of his passion for writing science fiction. He considered the father of Bengali science fiction.
