Safety first!

Last week, we conducted a workshop for students of Holy Mother English School in Malwani, Mumbai. We taught them the basics of road safety using placards as visual cues. We used 5 placards in total. Here they are!

1) Cross the road after looking both ways – 16 children die on Indian roads daily. Your children must be trained to take care of themselves on the road, to avoid major accidents.

2) Concentrate on the road – This is a golden rule while walking on the street. One must stay away from phones, newspapers, and other distractions. Safety is both the motorists’ and pedestrians’ responsibility.

3) No running on the streets – Many parents allow their children to run ahead while they follow, especially while going to school. They must avoid that! Motorists cannot react quickly if a human comes in the way; it’s almost impossible!

4) Follow bus safety tips

Don’t stand when the bus is in motion.
Don’t sit on the window, sit on the seat!
Don’t get off or get in a moving vehicle.

5) Wear a helmet – The driver, the pillion, and even a third or fourth passenger, must wear safety gear. There are helmets specially made for children, here’s where you can buy them!

We’d be glad to help out by conducting more workshops! If you know someone in need, let is know by sending us an email at ample.missiion@gmail.com
