World Malaria Day!
We bring to you a few easy measures to control the vector-borne disease. So, let’s beat malaria together!
World Malaria Day is observed on 25th April each year and this year’s theme is ‘Ready to beat Malaria’. This international observance day recognizes global efforts to control malaria. Here are a few ways you can avoid it!
1) Mosquitoes usually breed during dawn, from 6 am to 8 am and during dusk, 6 pm to 8 pm. Try to stay indoors during these hours, especially during monsoons.

2) Protect yourself from mosquito bites by making sure the room doors and windows are closed properly and curtained with gauze to prevent mosquitoes from getting in.

3) Spray your clothes and the exposed parts of your skin with a mosquito repellent. Use an insecticide that is most effective in your area before entering a room.

4) Wear socks, long pants, long-sleeve shirts and blouses to reduce the number of mosquito bites. Good-quality lightweight clothing will protect you from bites.

5) Avoid beer as it increases the body temperature and makes you sweat more attracting mosquitoes. Keep yourself clean by taking regular showers especially when you feel sweaty.

6) Standing water is breeding ground for mosquitoes. Turn over or remove all water-holding containers (tin cans, plastic jugs) lying around.

We wish you all a malaria-free life! You can go a step forward by helping out certain organisations, such as TAMTAM Africa and the Malaria Consortium, that are working for a world free of the disease.
